Well we have got off to a good start for Term 3. After ending term 2 exploring procedural writing, using action verbs in cooking, the students cooked nachos then wrote about it. The focus for the upcoming weeks is exploring explanatory writing:

• Using Action Verbs to describe the movement in every day Machines

To do this we will be:

• Watching videos about machines
• Compling an action verb bank
• Drawing and designing a Rube Goldberg machine to perform an everyday task
• Describing the movement the machine makes

Then after this our focus will be using similes and metaphors to enhance meaning in writing. 

To do this we will be:

• Investigating the seasons and the science behind them
• Using technical vocabulary unique to the seasons
• Using descriptive features such as similes and metaphors to enhance meaning

I look forward to seeing the students engaging further with writing whilst having fun doing it!

Cooking With Action Verbs

This term's writing lessons have been really positive, every day we have been writing we have learned lots of different things like narratives, recipes and making our writing as interesting as we could. We have focused on different aspects of writing and looked at different videos, websites and online tools to help us.

I have really enjoyed writing with Miss French. I feel my writing has improved so much, also I really enjoy writing where I used to hate it. When my teacher said "Get your books out it's writing time," I really never wanted to do it. I'm looking forward to next's term's writing! By Ryan Robertson

For two weeks we have been focusing on making writing more interesting by choosing carefully the verbs we use.

Learning Objective:

• To use action verbs effectively to create a visual in a readers mind

To do this we:

• Watched and critiqued cooking videos for action verb ideas
• Compiled a list of great action verbs to use in our writing
• Cooked something delicious - Nachos
• Took photos of our cooking to inspire our writing
• Then we wrote an 'action verb' rich recipe

I have made an advert for the monster I created on beast blender.

I have been sick for a while and have missed out on some things in writing but I am really looking forward to making scrumptious nachos on Thursday. We will be focusing on action verbs. Taylor.
